On September 1, 2021, the Department of Insurance issued Bulletin 260 continuing the waiver of clinical information requirements for prior authorization during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
The bulletin explains that the department strongly encourages insurers to waive the clinical information requirements for prior authorizations when doing so will expedite the transfer of patients to the most appropriate setting through September 30, 2021. The intent is to increase the number of hospital beds and staff available to assist COVID-19 capabilities.
While the bulletin applies to insurers, employers should be aware of these developments.
