State Updates

Transition Plans Extended

On June 10, 2020, Insurance Commissioner Rude issued an informational bulletin for all health insurance carriers offering health benefit plans and self-funded plans in Wyoming. The Department of Insurance clarified its expectation that those insurers cover Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests and antigen tests, which are designed to detect COVID-19, when there is a medical need to provide them. The department also clarified that insurers should cover antibody tests only when medically necessary for diagnosing or treating COVID-19, as determined by a physician. If a patient requests one, then he or she may be responsible for paying for that test unless it can be established that the test is medically necessary.

Employers with plans regulated by the state should be aware of this bulletin.
