Recently, Gov. Sununu signed several healthcare bills into law.
SB 399, which is effective September 1, 2024, provides that health insurance coverage for blood lead testing shall not be subject to a copayment, deductible, or coinsurance. The bill also requires coverage for follow-up blood testing that is necessary to complete the preventive screening when the initial blood testing indicates an elevated blood lead level or is inconclusive.
SB 399
Under HB 1296, which is effective January 1, 2025, no group health plan or health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage that provides benefits for screening and diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations shall impose any cost-sharing requirements for such services. However, the requirement shall apply to a high deductible health plan only after the enrollee has met the statutory minimum deductible for the year, except for items or services that are considered preventive care.
HB 1296
SB 177, which is effective January 1, 2025, requires group insurance policies, health service corporations, and health maintenance organizations to provide insurance coverage for prosthetic devices, including activity-specific devices, for children under 19 years of age.
SB 177
Employers that sponsor insured group health plans with policies issued in the state should be aware of these new coverage requirements and contact their carrier for further information.
