On September 1, 2021, the Department of Insurance issued Bulletin 261 extending certain prior authorization timeframes in light of the ongoing public health crisis due to COVID-19.
The bulletin explains that the department strongly encourages insurers to extend prior authorization timeframes of approved authorizations for 180 days from the expiration of the prior authorization of non-emergent procedures postponed to assist COVID-19 capabilities.
While the bulletin applies to insurers, employers should be aware of these developments.
