Certain Individuals Required to Obtain COVID-19 Vaccine

On August 26, 2021, Gov. Pritzker issued Executive Order 2021-20 (COVID-19 Executive Order No. 87), requiring all healthcare workers, all pre-K – 12 teachers and staff, and higher education personnel and students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Individuals described above must obtain the first dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series or a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine within 10 days after the order was issued (I.e., by September 5, 2021) and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 within 30 days following administration of their first dose in a two-dose vaccination series. If unable or unwilling to receive the vaccine, such individuals will be required to get tested for COVID-19 at least once per week.

In addition, the order requires certain state employees, contractors and vendors at state-owned or state-operated congregate facilities to be vaccinated by October 4, 2021 (subject to bargaining for employees).
