On March 10, 2021, HHS extended the comment period for the proposed HIPAA privacy rule. As we highlighted in the December 24, 2020 edition of Compliance Corner, HHS proposed modifications to the HIPAA privacy rule to remove barriers to coordinated care and reduce regulatory burdens on the health care industry.
The comment period on the proposed rule is extended through May 6, 2021 (instead of the original March 22, 2021 deadline). HHS wants to maximize the opportunity for the public to provide meaningful input to inform policy development.
Interested entities can take advantage of this extended comment period.
